The Carroll High School Athletic Hall of Fame is a Texas Unincorporated Nonprofit Association that operates as an off-campus Sports Hall of Fame comprised of former student-athletes, coaches and supporters of Mary Carroll High School, Corpus Christi, Texas.

1974 – Carroll High School football team won the 1st District Championship in school history, going 9 – 2. They were undefeated in district play before getting upset by McAllen 39 – 28 in the playoffs. The team was considered one of the best teams in history at Carroll and Corpus Christi football. Both the offense and defense were ranked number 1 in the district. Offense scoring 341 points, defense allowing only 117 points. The offense behind a stellar offensive line and talented receivers, 3 backs with combined 3455 rushing yards, passed for 601 yards and averaged combined 405 yards and 34 points per game. The offense set a city record at the time for points in a 10-game season surpassing the 1951 Ray Texans. The defense led by a group of talented aggressive players allowed only 1345 yards rushing, 862 yards passing, 221 yards per game, and 11 points per game. The team was senior heavy with 10 seniors starting on offense, 8 on defense. Special Teams was loaded with a talented group of seniors and juniors. 1974 – The Tigers lead the district placing 11 players on the All-District 1st Team and 4 on the All-District 2nd Team. They led the All-South Texas Team with 4 players on the 1st Team and 6 players on the All-South Texas 2nd Team. CAREER STATISTICS – Won 175, Lost 98, Ties 7 Winning % – 62.5%

Class of 1973, inducted in 2025 into the Hall of Fame

Pless lettered three years in football and two years in track. On the gridiron, he started both his junior and senior years on offense and defense. At 6-2, 220 lbs, he played Rover on defense and tackle on the offensive line. He help the Tigers to a second place finish both years finishing 6-3 and 7-2-1 respectively. He even pulled in an interception versus the Robstown Cottonpickers in 1972. Pless was selected 27-4A First Team All-District as a tackle on offense his junior and senior season. His senior year he added the All-South Texas First Team selection to his resume as one of the best offensive tackles in the area. His teammates selected him captain his senior year in football. In track, Pless’s best toss in the shot put was a little over 45 feet his senior year where he finished fourth in district. He finished fifth in the shot put his junior year. Pless continued his football career at Texas Tech University playing for the Red Raiders in football on scholarship.

Robert “Bobby” Beach was a 3 year left field starter on the Tigers baseball team. He was unanimously chosen for both the Coaches and Caller Times All-District first teams in 1979, and he lead the district in batting with a .453 average, in triples with a total of 7, and in runs scored with 30. Bobby hit 4 homeruns, 7 doubles, and strung together a 14-game hitting streak that season in district. He was also selected to play in the Texas High School Coaches Association North-South All-Star game in the Astrodome. In 1979, Bobby was chosen 2nd team cornerback in football All-District and All-South Texas teams.
He accepted a scholarship from Texas A&M and continued playing baseball. His batting average of .433 was the 2nd highest in A&M history and S.W. Conference average of .407 – only striking out 5 times that year and was honored by receiving the Marion Pugh Award for A&M Baseball’s Most Valuable Player.
Bobby graduated in 1983 and decided against playing professional baseball and returned to Corpus Christi to join his family business. He and his wife Jennifer have 2 daughters who are both A&M graduates.

The 1974-75 Carroll High School Boys Basketball team finished the season with an incredible 35-3 record. At one time, posted 26 wins in a row. They averaged 78 points per game and only allowed 48 points per game, cracking the 100 point barrier three times during the season. They were the District 27-4A Champions and Bi-District Champion losing eventually to San Antonio Jefferson in the Region 4-4A Semi-Finals. The Tigers were ranked 2nd in the state most of the year, finishing ranked #4 in the final poll. The hoopsters won all three tournaments they participated in. Individual honors for the team include unanimous District 27-4A First Teamers Preston Bailess and Victor Melton, Second Teamer Randy Feemster and Honorable Mention Mark Keim. Bailess and Melton were Co-All South Texas Players of the Year. Bailess was selected second team All-State and was invited to represent South Texas in the Texas High School Coaches Association All Star Basketball game.

Clark was a scoring machine for the Carroll Tigers basketball team from 1969-71. He Lettered three years scoring 1591 points for a career which at the time was a school record. Clark also lettered two year on the baseball team, playing first-base. As a starter, his junior and senior year on the hardwood, the Tigers won 41 total games. The hoopster was named to the Ablilene Basketball Classic All-Tournament Team and to the Corpus Christi ISD Basketball Invitational All-Tournament team his senior season. The 6-3 guard scored 748 points his junior year followed by 809 his senior year. Clark was name captain both years by his teammates. By the time he graduated, Clark held 11 school records in basketball including an impressive 41 points vs Pt. Lavaca Sandcrabs in 1970. He finished his high school career averaging 18.1 points per game which included 23.9 point per game his senior season. Clark was named 25-4A First Team All-District both his junior and senior year. His senior year he was named 3rd Team All-State in basketball. Clark went on to play college basketball at Southwest Texas State University.

Ricketts came late to sports as he was sacking groceries until the spring of his junior year. He was able to go to a couple of meets before district in 1976. Ricketts’ leap of 23 feet 11/4 inches was good enough to win the District 27-4A title. He continued his success at the UIL Class 4A Regional IV track meet. His leap of 23 feet 2 inches was good enough to win the regional title. In between the state meet and regional meet was a qualifier meet called Little State, held in Karnes City. He won that meet with a leap of 23 feet 1 3/4 inches. At state, Ricketts came in third in 1976. For his efforts, he was named to the All-South Texas Boys Track Team. The leaper continued his dominance his senior year. Ricketts added a long jump title from the Chatter Allen Meet, Gulf Coast Relays and Victoria Relays. In Victoria, he had a leap of 24 feet and 11 inches. In 1977, Rickets won the District 27-4A meet, UIL Class 4A Region IV Meet and finished with a silver medal at the UIL Texas State Track and Field Meet in 1977. His final leap for the Tigers was 23 inches 4 1/4 inches in Austin. Rickett also help the Tiger track team by competing in the high jump, mile relay and sprint medley relay. Ricketts also lettered in football his senior year. Post high school, Ricketts continued long jumping at Eastern New Mexico University for the Bulldogs. Ricketts was later selected as an alternate to the United States Olympic Team as a long jumper.

Donnie Stacy was State Baseball Tournament Team honorable mention pitcher on the ‘62 team that won Regional and played in the State Tournament. He pitched on the ‘63 team that won Bi-District. His ‘62-’63 baseball teams had a combined 52-19 (.732) record, and his record as a starting pitcher was 16-4 (.800). Donnie was a starting forward and Captain on the basketball team with a record of 44-18 (.710). He played basketball and baseball at Blinn College and graduated from Sul Ross State Univ. with a Business Degree. He has enjoyed a 50-year career in real estate. Donnie lives in Georgetown, TX.
